Shen Yun is a colorful celebration of China’s rich cultural heritage

of ancient China. With a unique blend of classical dancers, beautiful costumes, and legends coming to life, Shen Yun is a theatrical performance that will take your breath away. [ Gong clangs ] [ Chinese music plays ] ♪ Hi, everyone. I’m excited to tell you about a new show coming to the Bay Area. I’m talking to Abe, who’s gonna tell us all about the Shen Yun experience. Tell us what it’s about, Abe.>>Well, Shen Yun is a show for everyone. And we’re excited to invite your audience to come and experience the show. And Shen Yun presents classical Chinese dance and music and was established in 2005 in New York by a group of elite Chinese artists. And Shen Yun presents classical Chinese dances, ethnic and folk dances, story-based dances, accompanied by an orchestra and solo performers. Shen Yun’s mission is to revive genuine traditional culture. And this year marks Shen Yun’s 13th year of traveling here to the Bay Area. We want to extend that invitation to your audience.>>Alright, tell us why folks here in the Bay Area would benefit from a show like this.>>Well, Shen Yun is a show that must be seen. Its entertainment and production values are at the top. And you can go online to see that many distinguished audience members have said that Shen Yun is the best. And so what you’d expect to see from a Shen Yun show is a journey through China’s history, where the audience can experience ancient legends and heroes come to life onstage. But what’s at the heart of all this is exquisite Chinese classical dance, that’s spellbinding to where you have the beautiful choreography, this amazing backdrop that interacts with the performance, an amazing orchestra, and this beautiful choreography. So it leaves one feeling inspired, uplifted. And it’s the best way to start the new year.>>Colorwise, I mean, is this just a show for the senses, would you say?>>Many people say that, that they find that they’re full of joy, they’re full of happiness. And some people have tears in their eyes, and some people leave feeling very uplifted and refreshed. And we feel like, in the holiday season, with the new year, that it’s really the best show.>>Do people actually have to know Chinese to appreciate this show?>>No, they don’t. There is a host emcee that guides the audience through each performance. If you enjoy exquisite costumes, beautiful music, amazing dance techniques, touching stories, and exciting legends, you’ll love Shen Yun.>>Okay, so, we know that Shen Yun is incredibly successful, cities across the country, all over the world, but it’s not something that’s seen back in China. Why is that?>>It’s true. We hope, one day, that Shen Yun can travel to China. And that’s the wish of people in Shen Yun and everyone. Back in 2005, a group of elite Chinese artists actually had to leave China, to actually be able to have the freedom to present this culture onstage. So it’s amazing what they’ve been able to do, and bring this culture back to life. It’s so beautiful, and there’s so much history there. And we’re really happy every year to be able to bring this and share this with the community here. And so we’re really happy to be here and bring Shen Yun back here, year after year, to share this beautiful culture. And that’s really at the heart of these dancers and Shen Yun, is to revive this lost culture and share it with the world. And so being here for the 13th year, even if someone in your audience has seen the show, every year Shen Yun puts together an all-new show with new choreography and new music. So we invite them to come back and see it. And for those of you who haven’t seen the show, you can’t miss it. It’s one of the best shows you’ll ever experience.>>And is this something all ages can experience and enjoy?>>Really, all ages. I’m approached by parents all the time that come up to me and say, you know, “I was so worried about my child seeing the show, but they didn’t say a word throughout the whole show.” And it’s really captivating, not only for children, for every age, if you’re someone who loves the arts or if you’re someone that doesn’t. The level of artistry and the beauty and the compassion that’s presented onstage is really unmatched.>>Alright, this is something that’s absolutely perfect for the holidays, wouldn’t you say?>>It’s an absolutely perfect holiday gift. Please go to shenyun.com and buy tickets today.>>Thank you for talking to us, Abe.>>Thank you.>>You can see the magic of Shen Yun in Berkeley, San Jose, and San Francisco. Visit shenyun.com for more information.

Something about this just seems forced and propagandist. They're trying too hard to get people to see it.

  7. Troy Schulz Posted on February 11, 2020 at 9:59 am

They're also a propaganda outing by a homophobic cult that's exploiting legitimate grievances against the Chinese government's human and civil rights abuses into self-aggrandizement.

Once the CCP finally crumbles and a democratic government is revived in China, its citizens can finally really see their rich culture again as it once was, and they don't have to be so arrogant walking around with butthurt egoes any more. Go Shen Yun!

  18. Mike Hockett Posted on February 28, 2020 at 8:46 pm

I understand why they didn't advertise that this was a play advertising the Falun Gong or Falun Dafa religion, a Chinese Cult from the 1990's. If they had, they wouldn't have been able to sell a single ticket in the US. The dances portrayed people being healed by touching the Dafa book (bible), persecution from the Chinese government, etc. After 2 dances, you've seen it all. Tell me I'm going to a religious show and let me have a choice as to whether to buy tickets. Don't surprise me. We left at intermission, as did several others. These guys are very talented athletes and it was very colorful, but after 2 dances, you've seen everything there is to see. Buyer Beware!!

  19. Mark Littleton Posted on February 28, 2020 at 11:36 pm

Just saw a performance a few days ago and the commercial for it is pretty much all you need to see, unless you enjoy 2 hours of the same thing over and over again…….plus it's pushing some cult like religion. Weird stuff.

We saw this show last season what a complete bore. The audience was literally asleep.
    Dreary music dull.

Nature and human life are as various as our several constitutions. Who shall say what prospect life offers to another? Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?

I traveled to LA a year ago and I saw ads all around for this but I never saw it. I hope it comes to the east coast soon! It looks like a spectacular display of music and beauty!

The rumors got so bad in Salt Lake City that the Utah Department of Health issued a tweet reassuring people the rumors were not true: “We are aware of several rumors regarding the Shen Yun dance troupe performances in SLC. We have investigated them and have no reason to believe that any members of the Shen Yun dance troupe are infected with COVID-19. These performances pose no risk to Utah residents.”

    Real China..

  27. Sandie Brown Posted on March 8, 2020 at 12:40 am

Shen Yun is actually Falun Dafa which is almost Scientology-like in its philosophy. The dancing is beautiful and the costumes are stunning but the message is definitely religious. I was totally offended when the big screen behind the woman singing informed me that my belief is poisoning my soul and by the end of the show I felt I had donated a lot of money to a religious cult. After about the 3rd dance you can’t help but feel you are watching the same dance over and over but with different costumes, I found it very repetitive. And don’t even ask about the soprano and the tenor they push out onto stage 😱 Total rip-off!!

  32. Jimmy Buffét Posted on March 13, 2020 at 2:46 pm

Why wasn’t he honest? It didn’t spring up as something organic. Shen Yun = Falun Gong = Cult that teaches that aliens invaded the minds of humanity in the 20th century, that the founder can walk through walls, and levitate.

  33. Rensi Liang Posted on March 19, 2020 at 7:41 pm

It's NOT real Chinese culture. It's CREEPY!!!!!!!!! It's actually an evil organization!!!
