Neighborhood Atheism – Baba Brinkman ft. Greydon Square

Okay, so if belief in a supernatural monitor
god That supervises morality
Is a cultural evolutionary adaptation That spread because it incentivized cooperation
In large scale socieites Giving them an adaptive edge in competitions
Well then that predicts that religious people Should really mistrust atheists, huh? I used to call myself an agnostic
But that was just me bein’ politically correct What’s my name? Baba! The B-A-B-A’s a
Mystic honorific in south and west Asia Named for my contemplative demeanour at the
scene of my nativity My folks were hippies in the seventies
They thought a baby with the face of a Buddhist monk Must be a reincarnated Buddhist monk, who’d’ve thunk? I grew up around a lotta new age woo Deepak Chopra, Yoga, What the Bleep Do
We Know? Holy Eckhart Tolle, it was a heady brew And yeah, I went through a woo phase too I’m still cool with the yoga stretchin’
But not with supernatural forces, nonexistent No gods, no heaven, no hell
No karma, except for the kind we forge ourselves And loads of heathens have told me that even
though they don’t believe in them They think that other people need them
to be moral creatures If gods don’t exist, they needs to be invented ‘Cause without them everything is permitted We live in your neighbourhood Don’t be afraid of us For facing the world without faith Get used to us, we’re stayin’ put And if you try livin’ without god You might find it liberates My atheism’s intellectual
Faith-based claims are either untestable Or testable and evidentially contemptible
But then I learned that atheists are unelectable And trusted somewhat less than child molesters
Damn, I thought it was an epistemological question! You’re thinkin’ just because I don’t believe I’m bein’ watched When I’m alone, that I’m about to go turn into Ghengis Kahn? Or pull a Sandy Hook on ‘em? Get a grip man Morality is like a bike, religion’s like a kick stand You can’t imagine somebody being honest Without the aid of a crutch, because you’re
leaning on it I get it, but god is not the only scaffolding
That props you up with tough choices when you’re grappling It may come as a slap in the face to republicans But atheism increases under stable governments
In other words, people don’t need gods When they feel they can trust cops to keep
the laws You think trust is earned by showin’ up
for church? I trust an Uber driver first, you can check
his work My grandfather thought religion can save us
But I place more faith in digital reputations Besides, religion isn’t always ethical
Je suis Charlie Hebdo We live in your neighbourhood Don’t be afraid of us For facing the world without faith Get used to us, we’re stayin’ put And if you try livin’ without god You might find it liberates All my nonbelievers
All my godless heathens Ask us why we’re not just bein’
Evil, we got lots of reasons And if you stopped believin’
Would you be choppin’ people up? What’s keepin’ you from slaughtering?
I hope it’s not just preachers I used to believe in a god just like fools Before The Compton Effect, The Scale, and
Type 2 Before the physics
The christian god was the lord of wisdom I was the same and abhorred the different As a black dude I ate it up I would shuffle into the pews and pray for
stuff Stay for what?
The girls with the amazing butts? Of course I’m an ape, being forced the bible
but the fables sucked Slave lineage
They taught us to shame the knowledge and praise ignorance After grace The methods were just insidious
But believe it even though it’s hideous, Cuz “masta say” I thought “no way this could be heaven sent” So I started doing research, looking for evidence Inspect theology and afterlife Stepping into vivid color from a simple life
of black and white Now when I’m smashin’ the mic
My appetite is disruptive facts on wax That you happen to like They say we’re less moral Nah, we just sniff the bullshit out like it’s
fresh floral We actually test thorough We live in your neighbourhood Don’t be afraid of us For facing the world without faith Get used to us, we’re stayin’ put And if you try livin’ without god You might find it liberates

im not big into rap mostly because alot of it nowadays is nothing but lyrics about sex/drugs/violence which is not inherently bad but i think its become a bit overused in alot of rap today, but as an atheist, i love you guys for this, and you did a good job, using music to portray an important message and making it sounds pretty good in doing it!

nice work and keep it up!

"We're here to stay" snickers let's see how long my friend. Wait, why is this on trending?

  23. Michael Benoit Posted on December 31, 2016 at 11:06 am

    This video presents a paradox.

The song is about the logical underpinnings of atheism, yet…. Baba and Grey on the same track is an obvious supernatural miracle. Rationalist hip hop prove the existence of a divine deity. Now, where's our Kung Fu grips?

  24. Kennington la Train Posted on December 31, 2016 at 6:04 pm

    Lol 😂 WTF

  25. tabletop581 Posted on December 31, 2016 at 7:11 pm

The more we throw God out, the more morally lost we are. Hollywood is full of atheists, and their values have polluted the rest of the world.
    In life, don't be faithless.

  26. Hell Houndz Productions Posted on December 31, 2016 at 8:35 pm

  32. John Smith Posted on January 29, 2017 at 6:26 pm

I don't have a god, nor a religion, but I still meditate. Funnily people think that sitting in stillness observing ones own breathing has to have something to do with a faith (that is something that has been pushed on the masses since times of old in the east and now in the west to make money)…No it doesn't, I just sit still and observe my breathing now and then no need for holy books Saviours/Masters/saints/scriptures/commandments/eternal threats and all the rest of it…works for me.

  33. Jonathan Allen Posted on March 7, 2017 at 6:43 pm

Wonder which religion would kill the most people if a Super AI followed the text literally. Guess they all would kill any other form of intelligent life in the universe if it got off earth. Love to see Dawkins and representatives of top 5 religions argue why super intelligent AI should follow there perspectives.

  40. GorillaGuerilla Posted on December 24, 2017 at 2:53 pm

I love this collaboration – now I just wish that Baba Brinkman would do a collaboration with Hugo the Poet!
I mean, how come that the guy who made the Cantbury Tales into rap haven't collaborated hundreds of times with the guy who raped Dante's Inferno…!?

  46. Charlie Frazier Posted on May 10, 2018 at 8:25 pm

When I was a child, I thought I was THE ONLY Atheist in The Entire World. I didn't know any other Atheists. Everyone in my immediate family from parents, siblings, aunts & uncles, cousins were all christians and treated me like something was wrong with me because I wouldn't surrender to their fake god and ridiculous religion. 😞
That is why I wrote the screenplay iCharlie and gave my title character other Atheist people who he could relate to and with. I am trying to promote this Atheist screenplay and I need to convince Hollywood producers & investors that there is a large enough audience for this type of movie.
So, I've started a facebook page to build that audience. All we are asking is that everyone simply visit our Page, click "Like" before they leave and "Share" the message with their like-minded friends to show Hollywood how Large and Powerful the global Atheist community really is!

  47. Whiny Ukrainian Posted on June 12, 2018 at 3:56 pm

I testify to your rap enlightenment, Baba

  48. JahRandom Posted on June 30, 2018 at 1:21 pm

Dude proves that what you look like, where you come from, your skin color, etc. has NOTHING to do with lyrical prowess. So talented.

  49. KR Jungwirth Posted on September 4, 2018 at 9:47 pm

Thank you so much for making me feel not so alone in this world…..

  50. Wynn Horton Posted on September 10, 2018 at 7:27 pm

These words are very intelligent. I think he should update and get some other rappers to join him. Add some modern sounds/styles.

  51. Robert D. Moore Posted on September 19, 2018 at 1:48 pm

Dear Baba Brinkman, wow, dude what you did is awesomeness and I enjoyed the captioned song with lyrics. Where can I find your printed lyrics at? I would love to download all over of them songs of atheism and share with my Deaf and Hard of Hearing who happens to be freethinkers, agnostics, atheists, non-believers and anti-theists.

  52. Carl WILLIAMS II Posted on September 28, 2018 at 5:19 pm

Hmm this is good song I mean the rap is alright it's not the best but it's nice hear new atheist song cause to be honest some rationalist raps are pretty bad to be honest actually. That's just my opinion on rap really.

Be careful with "Evolution theory is science". That is right, but there are different acceptable methodologies to draw conclusions, some of which are acceptable only in specific disciplines.

For me, reproducibility is a critical aspect of experimental sciences. As far as I know, there is no experimental evidence that new species can be generated by evolution.

Second, even if experimental evidence at this level is found, it only provides a possible explanation, not the only explanation, about how we came in here.
