Extended: Reza Aslan on What All Major Religions Have in Common | SuperSoul Sunday | OWN

OPRAH:  Let’s talk about the
similarities between all of the
major religions.  REZA:  I think if I were to
boil it down to a single sentence,
it’s the Golden
Rule.  OPRAH:  Mm-hmm. REZA:  Do unto others. In fact, what’s really
fascinating is that you find
that same principle in almost
every major religion in the world.  Almost
every major religion in the
world has a sentence, a commandment, that is a
version of, do unto others as
you would have done unto you.
And so I think morally speaking,
there’s this incredible
connective tissue around all of
these different religions because
all of them are focused on how
to live a life of value in a community.  Right?  Because
that’s — religion is a
communal thing. OPRAH:  Yeah.  Yeah.  REZA:  Faith is
individual.  Religion is
communal. And so that to me I
think is beautiful. What I’m more interested in is
what the mystic elements of all
of these religions have in common because whether you’re
talking about Sufi mystics in
Islam or Jewish mystics or Christian mystics or Hindu
mystics, when you hear them
speak, they all say the exact
same thing.  Which is, get past the
religion.  The religion is
important.  But you have to
break free of it if you truly want to
connect with the divine.  That
the religion is, again, the
sign post.  Don’t confuse it for the thing
itself.

I disagree over his apologist views of Islamic extremist actions, Reza proves to be a very intelligent man who really does not deserve all the attacks upon him.

Islam has no golden rule. It is unique that way. Research it.

Worship one God that creates the universe.
Allah in Arabic, God in English.
As other languages call God in their own language.
