Atheist Lawmaker Addresses House With His Own Prayer

one man gets who is in arizona state
representative our has refused to do a prayer doing it during a public meeting
so usually that has the legislators will come together to vote on something or
have some sort of meeting and it will bother heads and have some sort of
prayer and of course it’s a christian prayer but one mendez is an atheist so he
refused to do so instead he said the following and he says most prisons room begin with
requests about your heads i would like to ask you not now your
heads i would like to ask that you take a moment to look around the room at all
the men and women here in this moment sharing together this extraordinary
experience of being alive and and dedicating ourselves to working
toward improving the lives of the people in our state got back to have some sort the moral because they do it they’ll say yet been
made without a face tank anymore holds one hammering to be more were in fact this crusade isn’t it awesome in the world live in
the that we can work together and some more problems but reports
unloved so i’m surprised and also in a conservative state like
arizona its internal polls is the right word but
it’s it’s pretty courageous for him to not only run as an atheist but after
getting elected he refused to pray before the public be first of all no one
should pray able for any type of governmental
meeting university with reappraisal it this is like by taxpayers and you’re promoting type
of religion which is christianity in this case that if among uh… notify the sender their prayers before
for believes in high school before you know everybody’s saying u pray that god or whatever to use a safe family with event that this is deborah
made we this is the of course you should know
something to it and how can you tell if you’re just out of here within just replace the religion you might want
you don’t like and see if you still like that soldiers i guess that is so saying oh
lord you know that they said ensemble all decided that one of those split that that freddie or if they can and then you know they
were talking about sensor for well fall or whatever and yet but store on this was the economy these why are we
talking about a in overseas well i recently the supreme court agreed
to hear a case involving prayers are before public meetings they’re gonna
make a ruling on it hopefully they will find that
unconstitutional or supposed to have a separation of church and state when i was looking out at what is wrong
with you know our wolf blitzer caught up with one and uh… had this question for uh… and like this you have any more defect or me that might not have been one elite is a lot of one more time to bring
us a look at what is it maintains the body language of the woman something
she’s hiding behind a baby as is asking that question she looks so uncomfortable and like this you got a friend or defect or this is like a a infinite that the that’s that’s a critical pitted then
what do you think your activated wondering why that with that

WWMTD is what would Mother Theresa do, I tell you what, she would be the first in the middle east helping the poor so unless you are like her, you have no business telling people what they should believe and demonize others. Actually, you are violating my right to freedom of religion. I see why Atheist are Atheist because if they have to deal with people like you, I would be pissed too, though you do seem like a descent person. Thank those who gave that right to you, vets like me.

  2. Shannon Reynolds Posted on May 31, 2013 at 9:44 pm

I think that is true of a lot of people, but I see what you mean. Atheist just want to be left alone, the ones who spout that crap are just as worse as the people they are talking about. David Silverman, Pres of American Atheist told me that people like that are dumbasses. Like I said in another post, being fair is not in some people's vocabulary regardless. No one has the right to tell others what they should or should not believe or think, including Christian and Atheist.

  3. slint69 Posted on May 31, 2013 at 9:47 pm

Well maybe you are listing to the wrong people. My nephew is a atheist and a doctoer and he is helping people in afganistan middle in the hot zone. I am an atheist and I spend my spare time helping fysicly and mentaly handicapt people. And to be honest at the place where I help there are no christians and not one of my nephews colleauges is a christian. He is there as a soldier and he helps soldiers and civilians alike. I don't find that negative or deconstructive.

  4. slint69 Posted on May 31, 2013 at 9:51 pm

Money isn't everything I think onse actions speak louder than opening your wallet and give some money to buy off your guilt and to give you a good feeling you did something for the good of humanity that's just idol wishing you are a good person. Like the say two hands working do more than a thousand hands praying.

  5. Summer AndLightning Posted on May 31, 2013 at 10:02 pm

Money talks, bullshit walks. If you atheists aren't willing to donate money to help proples children in Africa get clean water so they don't die, how do you plan to help them? Are you going to send them a dvd of Bill Maher telling them Jesus does not exist? Let me know how that works out cheif.

  6. Summer AndLightning Posted on May 31, 2013 at 10:11 pm

According to Christian teaching, when Jesus said "Judge not lest you be judged" It means you cannot judge others for what you do. It does not mean you cannot judge abortion doctors for murdering children. Every abortion doctor deserves to be killed because they kill children. And you do not ask Jesus for forgiveness for your sins you will suffer in Hell for all eternity.

  7. slint69 Posted on May 31, 2013 at 10:11 pm

Well that's a very ill informed statement to make. As you might have noticed from my comment to Lowclef I do my bit for humanity and that consists of more than just donate money. But gathering from your comment thats all you seem to do and now you are a little ticked off that I put my finger where it hurts. I never been to africa but friends of mine have. We all do our bit, but it is an arrogant statement to think only christians are capable of such acts of kindness.

  8. slint69 Posted on May 31, 2013 at 10:17 pm

Africa is not the only place in the world where people have it difficult. As you are an ex Irishman liveing in America you should know that both in Ireland and in America there are also a lot of people who live in poverty. You should not only focus on the one's that live on the other side of the ocean you should also help the needy that are right on your own doorstep.

  9. slint69 Posted on May 31, 2013 at 10:28 pm

So you think that it is right to become a murdere because you consider someone else to be a murderer.
Beside being an atheist I am also a vegetarian.
So if I follow your logic,
I am allowed to murder butchers and everyone else who eats meat because I might consider them murderes or coconspirators to murder.
Don't you see how flawed that reasoning is?
You can never claim a higher ground of morals when you lower yourself to the same standards.
Didn't Jesus say love thy enemy

  10. K Slatter1 Posted on May 31, 2013 at 10:31 pm

It is not magic, and no matter what it still takes faith because there is not one thing that is 100% certain.

  11. The Forsaken Clown Posted on June 1, 2013 at 12:57 am

i see what you saying sorry for the objection.

  12. darby crash Posted on June 1, 2013 at 1:02 am

What arrogance, a christian judging others based on his antiquated notions of morality and condoning the murder of doctors. Your backward thinking has no place in a modern progressive rational society. People are NOT obligated to help others but if they are compelled they can and have my admiration. Why dont you ship out to Africa and impose your self righteous ideology on the natives, if you think thats in their best interest, but 1st ask the millions of dead american indians their take on it!

  13. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 2:06 am

Do you realize that you just said something contrary? Not judging on what they do, but doctors should be killed? That makes no sense whatsoever. Sanctity of life is something that we made up, or do you want to ask JFK what he thinks. Whatever happened to hate the sin, love the sinner? or is that something that does not connect well with what the church tells you. Peaceful protest, candlelight vigils, non violent protest, I respect that and yet you want to save a child but…cont

  14. slint69 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 2:07 am

As I can not speak for OGAB08 I will not do that, But I must say from my point of reasoning that I am happy that you understand.

  15. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 2:11 am

Might have to kill it if it becomes a doctor? You donate money, but have you ever actually went out and done anything? Do you go out when there are volunteers and ask them if they are Christian or not? How do you know that Atheists don't do anything charitable. Have you been in the US armed forces? You say life begins at conception, I say it started millions of years and is an ongoing process. Btw, abortions are not a 20th century invention, they have been going on since before recorded time…

  16. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 2:15 am

Not every fertilized egg comes to term, sometimes they get flushed away, something else you don't know anything about. So according to your logic, any woman who has had more than one period might be a serial killer. If that is what you really think, then maybe you need to call yourself something else, you don't follow Christ, your just a fan. If heaven has people like John Hagee, Jimmy Swagart, etc, then maybe I am better off in hell. My belief is none of your business, didn't I say tht already?

  17. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 2:19 am

Good for you, it is good to know people do things. I have done a lot of work with addicts, you know, the people other people feel morally superior too and throw away. I have had to slow down due to injuries I got while I was in the Army, but I do try to do what I can. I think he means well and his heart is in the right place, I just don''t know if he realizes that plenty of people do things to better the world, small things add up. Sometimes just greeting someone with a smile helps.

  18. slint69 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 2:49 am

I am humiliated by your sacrifice.
You are way more stronger than I would be. I refused to join the army because I thought That killing someone was wrong. But I always have respect for the one"s that did and made the world a better place for it.
Decent people come from all places and we should not ignorantly judge but try to work together because we could learn from eachother.
WOW you are the first intellegent woman I met in a long time here on youtube. I like your brain and train of thought

  19. slint69 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 3:04 am

If you ever decide to come down to Holland please drop me a line because I would be really flattered to give someone like you a place to sleep. I admire and I do apriciate women with bigger balls than I have

  20. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 4:03 am

To be honest, I don't much like the idea of killing someone and think there are better ways to resolve things. You do not have to be humiliated for any reason. Though people have to die, it is really suppose to be to save lives. I though I could make a difference and change a couple of things, and I did in my own way. I also believe in education, tolerance, coexistence and you do too obviously. Thank you for the compliments. If I go to Holland, I will look you up, I love meeting people.

  21. slint69 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 7:50 am

I personally seem to have some kind ot misplaced chivalry which you do not need

  22. slint69 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 8:36 am

You are always welcom in my little backward piece of the earth the only land that has been created by the people who live there. Mi casa is su casa sort of speak. You could wake up and just look across the water into nothing. I live right on the shore. And I would love to show you around.

  23. dyad2r1 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 11:48 am

"As for suicide rates, that is easily explained – we have to live with you people."
Aww, you poor little victims. I'm starting to cry.

  24. Pat Doyle Posted on June 1, 2013 at 11:55 am

It is magic. You may choose to say miracles because you think it sounds more intellectual, but it is still magic. I believe my car is blue. Now I can't say for sure that, in the 10 minutes since I walked in the house, magic paint fairies didn't just repaint it white, but believing my car is blue is not anything like what religious people mean when they say faith, and to try to make that false equivocation is dishonest.

  25. dyad2r1 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 12:15 pm

"Prayer has no place in Government functions. Especially with all the different religions. Keep it simple and don't allow any to pray openly there"
The laws have changed re. swearing on the Bible in court. It's no longer required. You say prayer has no place in goverment functions, yet Mendez prayed and he did it openly. Are you giving him a pass?

  26. BAMBOOZLED! Your rage nourishes me! Posted on June 1, 2013 at 6:41 pm

That atheist looks like a pediphil in that pic,

  27. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 8:18 pm

Shut up and let people be who they are, or are you afraid too? People like you make me ashamed to be affiliated with Christianity. What are you one of John Hagee's people, or are you just a self appointed idiot. Yes, Jesus was really into hating and wanting people to commit suicide. Let me know when you find the missing chapter where he says that. Atheist know more about Christianity than most "Christians" and like what Jesus had to say, you are a dumb ass Christian wannabe. Shut up!

  28. hipdead Posted on June 1, 2013 at 8:19 pm

Hmm, that's exactly the same comment that you posted as SamuelServesDog on another video troll. Idk wtf is wrong with you but you should definitely seek professional help or commit yourself to a mental institution. Your trolling for Jebus is such a good use of your faith.

  29. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 8:21 pm

Is that a joke? Because more pedophiles and serial killers consider themselves to be religious.

  30. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 1, 2013 at 8:25 pm

That is so sweet, and I do like Chivalry, it is not entirely forgotten, I think it is very sweet, even if it is unnecessary at times. Your Chivalry is not misplaced or out of bounds. I hope I did not make you mad and I do appreciate it very much. My biological sperm donor went to Holland and really thought it was beautiful. One of these days, I may take you up on that. 🙂

  31. slint69 Posted on June 1, 2013 at 8:56 pm

It takes alot to get me mad and you did not drive me to that edge. You are always welcome so if you want to just drop me a line and I'll show you around.

  32. Summer AndLightning Posted on June 2, 2013 at 4:04 am

You are simply using arbitrary concepts to argue your point, proof. You may as well be Bill O' Reilly At the end of the day if all the Christians renounced their religion, all that you would get is a world full of selfish people constantly fighting each other and trying to screw each other over. It would be like darwin's theory of survival of the fittest, people preying on each other constantly and using each other, people would live in constant fear.

  33. Summer AndLightning Posted on June 2, 2013 at 4:06 am

Im not worried about what you believe. If you were in congress maby I would. So far It seems to me you are some lonely miserable person whose only social life consists of arguing with people on youtube.

  34. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 2, 2013 at 4:42 am

If you say so. I guess you are in the same place as you say I am, you have argued with a lot of people on here. Maybe if you were not such a "better Christian" thinking you are right about everything, Ireland would be free by now.

  35. Pat Doyle Posted on June 2, 2013 at 12:48 pm

I'd say that's pretty much what we have now. I do find it funny though, what a low opinion religious folks have of themselves to think that without it they are all horrible people. I think more highly of you folks. And what evidence there is tends to indicate that the less religion is in a society, the more peaceful it is, and with fewer social ills like teen pregnancy, STDs, divorce, abortion, violent crime, etc.I know your church teaches you that you're evil, but you're really not.

  36. dyad2r1 Posted on June 2, 2013 at 1:19 pm

"Bravo Juan Mendez! Finally an Atheist in congress!"

    He's not a Congressman, he's a state senator.

  37. Shannon Reynolds Posted on June 2, 2013 at 1:58 pm

Wow, take your meds dude, the doctor gave them to you for a reason.

  38. hipdead Posted on June 2, 2013 at 5:49 pm

You're clearly delusional and your vapid threat is like water off a duck's back to me. You are clearly the one who is obsessed with the fact that atheists exist and don't need the imaginary fiend that so clearly warps your demented life.

  39. hipdead Posted on June 2, 2013 at 9:40 pm

Slaves of Religion: The idea of "God" implies the abdication of human reason and justice; it is the most decisive negation of human liberty and necessarily ends in the enslavement of humankind both in theory and practice. Those who choose to worship "God" must harbor no childish illusions about the matter but should renounce their liberty and humanity

  40. Skyler Myers Posted on June 2, 2013 at 11:09 pm

Finally, someone who works for the government that isn't completely retarded (or at least as far as we can tell).

  41. Albert Aguirre Posted on June 3, 2013 at 4:05 pm

  43. Tommy Latham Posted on June 3, 2013 at 11:58 pm

    stupid athiests.

  44. slint69 Posted on June 4, 2013 at 4:35 pm

Well isn't that a very eleganly formulated statement, based on an educated and flawlessly reasoned point of view.

  45. Summer AndLightning Posted on June 5, 2013 at 6:28 am

If you think you are too good for Jesus, and you refuse to fall on your knees and confess that he is God, and are willing to die for him, than your life means nothing, and you are worthless. If you reject the salvation of Jesus, and refuse to obey his sacred words in the gospel, be ready to suffer in this world for your arrogance, and be ready to spend an eternity in hell with Satan your master when you die.

  46. LvL Posted on June 5, 2013 at 8:09 pm

You're arguing on youtube right now.

  47. rockklimber24 Posted on June 6, 2013 at 12:22 am

    Psycho fuck.

  48. TomTerrific02 Posted on June 6, 2013 at 2:10 am

I work for a local government. Usually pick my nose during prayer, not always…. I check out the room first… not everyone bows their head… no picking, just a wink. If I get the wink back, we both know this is BS… and I don't pick my nose.

  49. Skyler Myers Posted on June 6, 2013 at 3:06 am

Preach it. Eternal punishment to those fools who dare to use their brains!

  50. Summer AndLightning Posted on June 6, 2013 at 4:32 am

There is no amount of your hatred and arrogance that can stand up to the love Jesus has for you. But if you do not accept Jesus before its to late, you will spend an eternity in the same Godless misery you create for yourself in this world.

  51. tampertt Posted on June 6, 2013 at 9:18 am

There is no proof Jesus ever existed. Keep your religion to yourself.

  52. ninjaschooldropouts Posted on June 6, 2013 at 2:52 pm

what misery? Lots of atheists are quite happy. Despite popular belief, you CAN have love and happiness without believing in the boogie man.

  53. ninjaschooldropouts Posted on June 6, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Now THAT'S love! Here, have some free will. But uh… if you use it to think what I don't want you to think…. you are going to be tortured for ETERNITY! Love you!

  54. riseredeos Posted on June 7, 2013 at 12:19 am

I have parents who love me, a kind man who loves me, a cat that waits on the door step for me, a beautiful country, and kind friends. Yep. Pretty miserable in this world I've gotta say. If god exists I'd ask that he'd treat his followers a little better so that his devoted starving in other countries could know less misery and wouldn't have to pray for death to alleviate their life given to them by the kind creator.

  55. riseredeos Posted on June 7, 2013 at 12:22 am

I didn't reject him. If he shows up open armed and i walk away, that would be rejecting him. so far I don't know he exists from aliens or pixies. If he ever shows up I'll make a choice, and if he doesn't and sends me to hell, I wouldn't want to spend eternity in heaven with that murderous being anyways.

  56. Summer AndLightning Posted on June 7, 2013 at 1:09 am

Jesus gave you his message on this earth, and died for you, so you could have eternal life. I was an atheist like you, I made fun of christians as a kid, my parents did not believe in God. I speak to you out of love as your brother, not as your enemy. Two videos her on youtube: THE REASON WHY IM A CATHOLIC And JESUS IS LOVE.

  57. Tommy Latham Posted on June 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm

    i'm not educated.

  58. slint69 Posted on June 7, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I would not be to proud of that

  59. Erti Posted on June 8, 2013 at 5:27 am

and since black holes fuck up light i dont think i can survive in it.

  60. riseredeos Posted on June 9, 2013 at 10:14 pm

My parents are some of the most devote people I know. That doesn't change my ability to think. You are certainly not my enemy, you don't even fall anywhere near that category. You assume that I'm upset at you, I'm not. I don't have the threat of a god that kills women, children, and infants in Biblical times, and plans to murder everyone who doesn't pay for his protection with servitude in the future. I'm pretty cool with not having that as the driving force for my life.

  61. riseredeos Posted on June 9, 2013 at 10:16 pm

You don't have to be formally educated to think logically. They don't go hand in hand, though an education does give you more information to work with.

  62. riseredeos Posted on June 9, 2013 at 10:18 pm

I'm an atheist, but I've actually read the bible. You're not being intellectually honest if you parrot what you've HEARD but haven't researched. You might want to look up a couple of your claims fyi.

  63. Summer AndLightning Posted on June 9, 2013 at 10:30 pm

Jesus does not hate you, Jesus loves you. If you love him, humble yourself and stop acting like an idiot that thinks he has all the answers. If you want to know the answers Jesus has for you in this life, shut your mouth, throw away your useless pride and arrogance that will get you nowhere in life, and sit down and read the gospel. Otherwise you will walk a road in this life that leads you to nowhere and nothing, and you will not be saved.

  64. slint69 Posted on June 10, 2013 at 6:54 pm

Why if Jesus doesn´t hate us, a lot of christians seem to so?
What makes them superior to their leader and give them the right to behave in way´s their leader would not?
If God gave us our brain to question things, what gives you the right to be condesending, proud and arrogant?
Do you still believe that blind obediance is better than follow his path without the threat of Hell? Is´t better to be a scum and to except Jesus that to be a decent human and remain abiviavilent about his exsistance?

  65. Tommy Latham Posted on June 10, 2013 at 7:01 pm

as jesus said to his disciple paul " i like it when you lick the tip."

  66. K Slatter1 Posted on June 12, 2013 at 1:06 am

So christians were not allowed to pray but an atheist is? If you want christians, muslims, jews, hindus or whoever to stop pushing religion down your throats then you have to stop being hypocritical to the point on where you get to pray in public but we cant. It works both ways no atheism, no christianity, no mention of, for, or against religion.

  67. newtonianromance Posted on June 13, 2013 at 7:42 pm

such a great photo. epitomeses the arrogant athiest and not to mention WEAK attitude, of superiority towards religion. having said that, his reasons are totally fair and he seems like he has the peoples interests. So all the power to him.

  68. riseredeos Posted on June 13, 2013 at 9:28 pm

I've read the gospel, was saved, and taught the gospel to others. It was through studying the gospel I found out I was following an immoral and frankly untrue system. If it brings you hope, even irrational hope, I wish that helps you have a happy if naive life. It's not pride that keeps me from believing in god, but the same reasons that I don't believe in all the other gods. no evidence.

  69. erik3423 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 12:44 am

How does an atheist pray? Do you know what atheism means? If anything he was lecturing the representatives on what they should have already known, separation of church and state. Prayer has no place in a government building, pray on your own or at your house that is your right, don't force an entire room of people in a state room for that to follow along with your prayer, belonging to your religion, that is shoving your beliefs down other people's throats…

  70. K Slatter1 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 2:00 am

As the title says "Atheist Lawmaker Addresses House With His Own Prayer" He was allowed to pray but Christians werent, it is discrimination and against their rights of freedom of religion and speech. You pushing religion out of daily life is just as bad and you are forcing atheism down our throats.

  71. K Slatter1 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 2:00 am

    You are welcome.

  72. erik3423 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 3:04 am

No one is forcing anything down your throat it is called secularism, that thing the Founding Fathers believed in… The title is misleading in order to maximize views, prayer is defined as a petition to a god or another object to worship. Atheist don't worship magical objects or gods, therefore it can't be a prayer. Like I said it is a speech he gave in order to bring attention to what they should be doing their damn jobs instead of praying for a miracle.

  73. erik3423 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 3:08 am

By the way, what about any Jewish, Muslim, or Buddhist lawmakers? Does that mean the Christian lawmakers have been discriminating against them for all these years because they didn't pray to Allah, or Yahweh? You pushing Christianity in everyone's daily life is what that is, and you are mad that people are finally speaking up against religious extremists. I suggest you familiarize yourself with what separation of church and state mean..

  74. K Slatter1 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 7:46 am

The founding fathers were not secular as much as you would like to believe. They have separation of church AND state not church FROM state, they put that in there for 2 reasons. 1. To prevent a democratic theocracy. 2. To prevent the trampling of first amendment rights by the state on the people. Also just because you pray doesnt mean you pray for miracles. I mean I pray that our political leaders would make the right decisions and to guide them. What is wrong in that?

  75. K Slatter1 Posted on June 16, 2013 at 7:49 am

No one has been pushing any Christianity down anyones throats. Atheism has been forced down our throats. For example Atheists took down a WW1 memorial remembering the WW1 vets and the ones in the wars after just because they had crosses on the graves. They took down a cross that is 20 miles from the nearest highway and barely in view of the nearest road because it was "offensive" even though it was there for 30 years. These are just a few examples but I have a character limit on youtube.

At the end of the day who are you praying to? An atheist has no reason to pray, because they don't believe in the supernatural…. Now you want to talk about character limits, where should I start how about the crusades?? Since the beginning of time people have been shoving their religious beliefs down anyone's throats, in fact millions of people died because of that. You can pray all you want, at your home and on your own but don't force your damn beliefs on others. Yes that means group prayer.

Actually, the Bible says, "God does not hear sinners." So atheists are wasting their time praying unless it's a pray of repentance in turning from their wickedness to the righteousness which by faith in Jesus Christ.

Go back to the 1910's old man… old retarded bitter one sided man.

  83. TheOmegau Posted on September 29, 2013 at 12:44 am

I'm fairly sure he's just talking about theists. You know, the arrogant ones that think god created man in his image or something along those lines. Generally a deist doesn't worship the god they believes exists, as it assumes that said god just generated the big bang and let nature take care of everything. XP

  84. TheOmegau Posted on October 2, 2013 at 7:03 pm

Indeed. Honestly, I don't know how any sane person can be a theist. To believe any holy book 100% means you're denying reality, and each of those books contradicts it in their words, be it with their creation myths, or whatever. The gods theists worship don't exist.

  85. TheOmegau Posted on October 7, 2013 at 4:40 am

Indeed they must. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Oops! It's so easy to point out how stupid your so-called "logic" is. Meanwhile, yes, I DO do charity, and help needy families. If you choose to reply, reply with something intelligent for a change!
